A WORK IN PROGRESS

I used to write books, but now paper is passé!  What to do?  I think I’ll create a new blog!  (It’s really more fun than writing for a publisher because you can say whatever you want!)  Anyway, teachers are running around like Chicken Little because, “The sky is falling!  The sky is falling!  Common Core State Standards are being implemented!”  Relax!  Dr. Jean to the rescue!  I’m going to take my 40+ years of activities and ideas from the past and show you how to align them with standards.  “We can’t adjust the wind, but we can adjust our sails.”  Together we can figure out how to do this and make it more FUN for our students!!!

Remember, good teaching is good teaching!  You have already taught most of the CC Standards, but now you have to be a little more deliberate in your lesson plans.  Smart teachers know the brain research, reading research, ELA and math standards – know your craft and then you can verbally justify the activities you do in your classroom.

I was talking to teachers several years ago about different approaches to reading. One teacher remarked, “Teaching is like chocolate chip cookies.  There are many ways to make chocolate chip cookies, but they all taste yummy.”  Every day this year I will try to give you some sugar and spice to make those CCSS taste better!

Come back January 1st 2014 and we’ll see how much fun this can be!!!!
